Fragments of stories, memories, facts, fiction, half-truths and current events are interwoven, as an alternate version is constructed, familiar yet unsettling.
I find global issues of landscape, power and identity a recurring theme in my practice. In varied locations such as a small industrial town in Canada, an Apache community in Arizona and the haunted landscape of the American South in Mississippi, I research and peel back the layers of socio-political backgrounds that have become the foundation for historic references and ultimately inform the contemporary visuals in my work.
In the style of a documentary fiction, using large and medium format film cameras, my work becomes an open dialogue as engagement with the communities resides at the core of my practice when constructing the work. The process results in an amalgam of their stories, my story, history and competing elements that blur the past and present state of the narrative.
